The Most International Rugby Scorers

what is scrum in rugby

There are many international players making their mark with rugby's current season. Here are seven Bay of Quinte products who made the grade.

The first round of the championship saw the likes of the Loyalist Lancers, the Kingston St. Lawrence Vikings, the Peterborough Fleming Knights and the Oakville Sheridan Bruins all gracing the pitch. But there are some big names who aren't on the winning side of this draw. Even the Loyalists haven't quite cracked the scoreboards in the early stages.

The top honors for most sought-after trophy go to the Loyalists member whose name is displayed on the shirt. James Lowe, an ex-Leinster stalwart who holds a lot of points, is that man.

Apart from the brawl with the winger above, there were other notable performances by some of the region's finest guns. The Loyalists' scout helmet was especially impressive. Although it's not a home run it is still a remarkable feat for the team.

Aside from a few missteps, the Loyalists' newest entrant had its moments. Britt Whiting's stunning score and Christine Vandertoorn’s incredible score are two of the highlights. Amanda Blair's show was the best. Although Blair was awarded the OCAA female rugby player-of-the week award, the best part of the day was her kicking game. Blair took advantage the icy wind and kicked three penalty kicks. She also won the player award for the week.

The OCAA's women's and men's leagues had plenty of amazing feats. Although it is not unusual to find teams with names like Jackson and Jake, these names might be best kept hidden. "George North" (and "George Davidson") were both injured and had to miss Round 2, while "Geoff Farrar” and "Gabe Davidson” stayed home for victory. However, both the Vikings (and the Lancers) won. Unfortunately, the names of the other competitors are not known.

It's a completely different story in the OCAA men’s leagues. Despite losing their last two games, the reigning champs have been shown by the OCAA that the Vikings or Lancers can show the world they aren't confined to Kingston. The scores they have accumulated this season show that they have made significant moves. Considering they're only a few rounds into the competition, they have the chance to nab a top-four finish and claim the elusive top spot. And if they can keep their heads, they'll be back in the winners' circle by the time they make it to the finals next year.

It is also possible to predict that other OCAA men’s league contenders will be trying for the title.
